In the order we'd do it:
Clear the floor of small stuff
Shoes, toys, dog beds, laundry baskets, floor lamps, the cords behind the TV stand. If it lifts with one hand, it leaves the room or goes on a counter. A technician can work around a couch. Forty Lego bricks, no.
Small area rugs sitting on the carpet come up too. Want them cleaned? Leave them rolled in the corner and say so; area rug cleaning happens right there in the house on the same visit.
Decide what furniture moves
You don't have to empty the room. Sofas, recliners, end tables, and coffee tables shift easily and we clean under them. Beds, dressers, entertainment centers, and anything with electronics on it stay put, and the carpet gets cleaned up to the edge.
If there's one piece you specifically want cleaned under, say so at the door and we'll plan the room around it. A china cabinet full of breakables gets boxed first. Nobody wants to carry that across a room. Snap a phone photo of the layout if you care about getting everything back exactly where it was.
Vacuum, but don't stress about it
A quick pass picks up loose dry soil and pet hair, which lets the cleaning compound spend its effort on what's ground in. Slow down across the traffic lanes and hit the corners. We vacuum as part of the visit anyway, so if you run out of time, no harm done.
Skip the store-bought pre-treatment sprays. Most leave a film that fights a soap-free process, and we bring pre-treatment for the spots that need it.
Point out the problem areas
Walk the room with the tech before anything starts. The old coffee ring by the recliner, the place the puppy picked, the lane worn in between the hall and the back door. Old pet accidents in particular need different handling than a food spill.
